How to Choose an Enterprise Attendance System: Fingerprint vs Face vs Card

Published: 2026-09-13 15:57  |  Source: Industry News

Enterprises mainly choose between fingerprint attendance, face recognition attendance and IC card attendance. Each has strengths and weaknesses, and each suits different scenarios.

Fingerprint Attendance

Lower cost with stable recognition, making it suitable for smaller offices in clean, dry environments. The drawbacks are that fingerprints are affected by wear, peeling and oil, so recognition rates drop noticeably in factories and on construction sites, and contact-based recognition raises hygiene concerns.

Face Recognition Attendance

Contactless recognition completes in around 0.3 seconds and supports mask-wearing recognition, making it fast and comfortable for crowded environments such as factories, construction sites and canteens. The drawback is a degree of sensitivity to lighting — choose devices with a fill light or a starlight-grade sensor — and a higher cost per device.

IC Card / Card Attendance

Fast recognition at low cost, suited to scenarios with modest attendance-accuracy requirements. The main drawbacks are that cards are easily lost and can be swiped by someone else, adding card-replacement costs.

Combined Authentication Is More Flexible

Mainstream devices now support combined authentication such as face + card, face + fingerprint and face + password, configurable by security level. Offices can use face recognition for fast passage, while core areas such as server rooms and finance offices use dual face + card authentication.
